In L’Opinion : European divisions over coronavirus
Quoted by L’Opinion on 1 April 2020 in an article on European divisions over coronavirus published under the title “Coronabonds: the European Commission as divided as the Member States“.
An opportunity to recall that “the debate is not just about a geographical divide. There is also a political divide that reflects electoral balances. It can be found in the Commission as well as in the Council and the European Parliament, between the three main groups: the European People’s Party (EPP, Conservatives), the Party of European Socialists (PES) and the Liberals (ALDE)”.
And to add that “there is no point in saying that the Dutch are selfish because the Netherlands is the country where Euroscepticism is essentially anti-solidarity, or in attacking the Germans who have already made a big effort to let the deficits slip through their fingers. We have to deal with them”.
