On Arte: “It is the European Rubik’s cube to be ordered on the basis of complex balances”
Intervention in the program “28 minutes” on ARTE on July 1, 2019.
While the Extraordinary European Summit focuses on the appointment of key European posts, the political content is not excluded from European discussions, Yves Bertoncini also points out that “the European Council has agreed on a strategic roadmap, just like the four main groups in the European Parliament who are trying to agree on a platform”.
That said, Yves Bertoncini explains that the objective of the negotiations under way in Brussels is first and foremost to choose the conductors: “we must appoint people to implement this roadmap: it is the European rubik’s cube, five key positions that must be ordered on the basis of complex balances”. However, he pointed out that when the last President of the Commission was appointed, the principle of the Spitzenkandidat had been applied and respected, which is not the case today: “This system was contested, including by Emmanuel Macron, who no longer plays rubik’s cube but a game of chamboule-tout of which stretches the atmosphere and makes the compromise more complicated to find”.
