On FranceCulture: Can Macron really save Europe?
In the first part, Marjolaine Grappe, documentary filmmaker and former correspondent in China, will discuss the social consequences of the one-child policy.
Then we will question the perspectives of E. Macron, after its first European Council this June 22nd.
Yesterday a European Council opened in Brussels, the first European summit for the new French president. Long awaited by all his partners, after having shown himself, during the campaign – but also since his inauguration – a politician particularly Europhile. He also gave his first major interview to several European newspapers hoping to see his election mark “the beginning of a French and European renaissance.”
But what can Emmanuel Macron really do? This week, the British magazine The Economist was making headlines about the French president, presenting him walking on water, proud and smiling with this question “Europe’s Savior?”.
To achieve this, we will have to overcome a number of challenges: the security, economic and social challenges, with extremely complex and urgent issues, foremost among which is the Brexit.
Negotiations have now officially begun, what will be the posture of the new “New boy” of Europe?
“New Boy” is how he was called by the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, who was one of the only ones to have been fairly measured – even circumspect – about the effects of the arrival of the “New kid” on the European scene.
A program prepared by Tiphaine de Rocquigny and Samuel Bernard.
